COLOR POOLING GRANNY SQUARE?

There is a new yarn from Red Heart and it is called Granny Square all in one. This new innovative yarn is supposed to change colors every time you start a new row of a Granny Square.

I love Granny Squares. They were one of the things my mom actually enjoyed crocheting when we were younger. My mom has always liked knitting more. It is a lot faster for her. She actually taught me how to crochet and knit but I enjoy crocheting more; there are so many shapes and patterns to explore.

This being said, I had to try this yarn. It had been sold out for a while and I had been trying to find it until finally I just went to JoAnn’s and found it there. I purchased a few skeins in different colors and went to test it out.

This color is called soft white citrus twist, and I thought it looked so pretty. This actually comes in 18 different colors if you go through the yarnspirations website, and it is listed for 9.99 in us dollars, but I purchased mine at JoAnn’s for 6.99 during the yarnormous sale.

This comes with a traditional Granny Square Pattern which is not how I usually crochet mine, but this is how the yarn is intended to be used and this is how I will make mine for the purpose of testing this yarn.

This took me many tries, but I finally got it. The label recommends using a 5.5 mm hook, but I decided to use a 5 mm hook because I wanted to leave more of a tail.

The first and last row’s tension had to be a bit tighter just so I could have a tail that I could weave in and hide. The second and third row had to be crocheted in a much looser tension in order to change colors at the beginning of the next row. It almost feels like I had to crochet every row a little differently.

Does this work? Yes. After I got the hang of this yarn, I was able to work up my squares a lot faster than this first one which was the longest I have ever spent crocheting one granny square.

One skein is supposed to make 14 squares. I was actually able to make 15 from one skein. I am not sure what I will make after blocking these, but I will definitely keep you posted!

I would rate this 4 out of 5 yarn hearts. I think it is worth the hassle of the first few tries if you have the patience and although the color bleeding did bother me a bit; the finished product is so pretty!
