Oh, my goodness!
We went to a thrift/antique store because I wanted to see if I could find any crochet pattens. I was so shocked that I found something like these adorable pattens. (These are the ones online, but I only have some of them and they are hard copies.)
They are called Dumplin Designs and were made by Graham Publications Inc in 1985. There are different series but the few I found were from the cupcake corner series. These include the 12 characters named Buttermilk Bisquit, Strawbery Jam, Rainbow Slush, Hot Fudge Sundae, Banana Split, Pink Lemonade, Peach Taffy, Taffy Apple, Pecan Pie, Gumdrop, Lollipop, and Popcorn.
When I picked these up, I really thought they were a forgotten line of the cabbage patch kids but I realized later that they were not. They are different; the cheeks are different and so are the eyes, but I do still believe there is a resemblance.
The designs and names are very cute, and I really enjoyed researching and reading the different designs. The heads seem were supposed to be added later to everything you are crocheting. I did not purchase any heads and I just crocheted one. I did not want to buy a head when I do not have all the patterns to make them all.
The patten itself is very easy to follow. There is pictures on the back of the little booklet about how to crochet the different stitches. These include foundation chains, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet.
The one that I have created is called Peach Taffy and there are a ton of ruffles; there are ruffles on ruffles on ruffles. This is a very long process, but it looks so adorable!
There are no pictures aside from the picture of the little doll in front and the pictures on the back but if you know how to crochet those stitches and read patterns; this works very well.
The amigurumi head I made actually took me less time to make than the body of the doll itself, but I firmly believe that this was due to the fact that there are so many ruffles on the skirt of her dress.
This was very interesting and fun to create! The concept is very fun, and the names were very adorable.
I wish they would do more stuff like this now a days. I don’t see many toy companies doing this anymore, there is not anything where you make a toy or dress for a doll you have; everything is sold now a days. Although there are small businesses that do have some stuff like this; there used to be official patterns to make care bears, or Winnie the pooh characters and they were big.
I love the way this came out. I give this pattern a 4/5.
